menALIVE Saint Kevin’s Geebung
“God is glorified when men are fully alive”
St Irenaeus
menALIVE was founded in 2003 by a small group of Catholic lay men: married, some with families, some single. They shared a common desire to respond to the question concerning the composition of current Catholic congregations, "Where are all the men?"
They considered themselves to be “ordinary” men who had experienced something powerful through the Church. They were convinced that there is something greater than themselves to live for. The group wanted other men to encounter what they had experienced. Out of this desire was founded menALIVE: A National Catholic Ministry for men. It is built on the belief that a man is not alone and that he can see where God is at work in his life and in the life of the world around him. A man does not have to 'battle' through life on his own. God meets each man at whatever stage or circumstance he is at.

menALIVE was established in St Kevin’s Parish Geebung in November 2018, after a parish men’s weekend was offered. It was a grace-filled experience for all the attendees, whose ages ranged from their mid-twenties to eighty. Since then, small groups of men have met weekly, to share their stories, reflect on scripture and pray together.

What the men of Geebung are saying:
I used to feel alone in the Parish, now I have a group of close friends to whom I can talk with anytime. At our weekly meeting, the collective wisdom of the men (Holy Spirit at work) never ceases to amaze me as do the different insights I get into the Sunday Gospels. (Chris)
Meeting with my "brothers" regularly to hear the Gospel, share our insights and pray for our various intentions, has nourished my faith considerably. The genuine friendships that have developed in the small group continue to support and strengthen us as men of faith. (Peter)
I find that I have gained a better appreciation of the Gospel each week. Some of the insights provided by the other men give me a different perspective on the Gospel passages. I also get a buzz from sharing my thoughts, when other men provide me with positive feedback. The camaraderie in the small group also supports those men experiencing difficult times. Each week, as well as freely sharing events in our lives, we may mention any concerns we have in our lives and the group prays for these intentions. (Bob)
menAlive is a work of God that helps the common good and builds my masculinity, my deepening ability in listening and my compassionate sense for others. Come and see! (Brendan)
It has been an inspiration to see the growth in spirit, fervour and closeness to the Lord among the men in the Parish who have been part of the menAlive group. Even deeper than camaraderie, which is achievable in most groups of people generally, the bond which is present among the menAlive members expresses itself in a sincere brotherhood, with all the charisms the Holy Spirit gives to men who sincerely seek God in their family life, their Church and with each other as companions on the challenging path through their one, precious life. (The Parish Priest)
